By fthomas | April 25, 2009
Time for sleep, but are you still rolling and tossing for an hour or so? What you need is an insomnia cure. It has been discovered that 25% of adults are experiencing a certain type of insomnia. Generally, there are three varieties of insomnia.
- Type 1 - difficulty in falling asleep at the moment a person goes to bed.
- Type 2 - waking up too early despite of falling asleep instantly.
- Type 3 - sort of combination, falling asleep speedily or hardly and waking up frequently in the middle of the night.
Everybody deserves a good night sleep. For those suffering from insomnia, there are certain remedies but the method of dealing with it still depends on three factors:
- type of insomnia- transient or chronic
- probable cause
- mental and physical condition and age
Tips for Curing Insomnia
You can actually cure your insomnia without any medications or treatments from your doctor. The first step is to check yourself, especially your habits on sleeping and find out what are the causes of your insomnia. Here are some tips on how to cure insomnia naturally:
- Keep on track. Check the time you go to bed and the time you wake up. It is better if you will go to bed and wake up at the same time everyday.
- Cut down your intake of alcohols, nicotine, coffee and tea.
- Do not eat a heavy meal before sleeping.
- Make sure your room is dark, warm and quiet.
- Go to bed if you feel sleepy and tired. If you still cannot sleep, get up and return to bed when you are sleepy again.
- Relax before sleeping. Take a warm bath, drink a glass of milk, listen to a soothing music and make yourself comfortable on your bed.
Alternative Insomnia Cure
Other people with insomnia still prefer therapies, herbal alternatives and medications. Of course, they can be used and it may work on you, too.
Therapies such as acupuncture and acupressure are known to give a calming effect to the systema nervosum. Aromatherapy is now also used to treat insomnia.
Food and herbal supplements are also thought to help cure insomnia. Popular herbs include chamomile, passionflower and lavender. Melatonin, on the other hand, is known as food supplement, but it is actually a natural occurring hormone produced by the pineal gland and is known to affect sleeping.
There are many other ways to eliminate sleeping problems. But, like what many people say, the right insomnia cure is up to your choice.
